Donations Sought for
Computers 4 Kids Project

San Luis Obispo, CA – San Luis Obispo-based computer and Internet solutions firm, TechXpress, and the San Luis Obispo County YMCA are currently seeking donations for their Computers 4 Kids program. From Wednesday July 16th through the end of August, they will be accepting donations of used PC’s, which will be refurbished and given to children of low-income families in the area. Cash and new computer donations are also welcome. Computer recipients will be selected by teachers and administrators in the San Luis Obispo Coastal Unified School District.

“Children are at a great disadvantage in school when they lack access to a computer for homework, research, and college and career planning,” said TechXpress President Bryan Sarlitt. “We hope the community gets behind this effort to take an often wasted resource and put it to work for dozens of local kids.”

Sarlitt noted that their goal is to donate at least 100 computers to deserving children at the start of the 2003-04 school year.

Suggested donation guidelines are as follows:
¨ Donations may include CPU’s, monitors, printers, keyboards and mice.
¨ PC’s must be able to run Windows 98 or higher
¨ Currently, Computers 4 Kids cannot accept Macintosh computers
¨ Please include Windows CD and Product Key, computer software (Microsoft Office is especially helpful), and manuals if available.
¨ All donations are tax-deductible.

Donations are being accepted at the following locations:
¨ Albertson’s stores in San Luis Obispo (771 Foothill and 1314 Madonna Road in the Laguna Village Shopping Center)
¨ TechXpress (located in the Acacia Creek building at 3450 Broad Street, Suite 108)

Everyone who donates a computer will be entered into a drawing for a $100 shopping spree, courtesy of Albertson’s or a $100 TechXpress gift certificate.

Computers 4 Kids is sponsored by TechXpress, SLO County YMCA, New Image Technologies, Albertson’s, Charter Communications, KKAL 99.7, New Times, San Luis Mini Storage, The Sign Place and Central Coast Printing.
