4 Kids School Presentation Ceremony Scheduled
San Luis Obispo, CA – San Luis Obispo-based computer and Internet
solutions firm, TechXpress, and the San Luis Obispo County YMCA
will be hosting a Presentation Ceremony for their Computers 4 Kids
Program. The event will take place Wednesday October 29th, 7:00
p.m. at Hawthorne Elementary School in San Luis Obispo. At the ceremony,
organizers will be presenting 85 refurbished computers to children
from low-income families within the San Luis Obispo Coastal Unified
School District.
During the summer, TechXpress and the SLO County YMCA collected
used computer donations at San Luis Obispo Albertson’s locations.
From these donations they will be able to produce far more than
their goal of 100 refurbished computers. Computers in excess of
those designated for the school district will go to local non-profit
organizations that serve children in our area.
Computers 4 Kids recipients from the SLO Coastal School District
were selected by teachers and administrators. The criteria for selection
was that the child comes from a low-income home, they do not currently
have a computer at home, and they make an effort in school.
“We were surprised by the huge response to Computers 4 Kids.
Clearly there was a need in our community for such a program,”
said TechXpress President Bryan Sarlitt. “We’re excited
to be a part of a community-wide effort that will potentially improve
the lives of so many local kids.”
Sarlitt says that he hopes to repeat the program next year. However,
because computer donations and the expenses that go with refurbishing
them far exceeded the staff’s expectations, the program currently
has needs that he hopes the community will assist with. Computers
4 Kids is currently in need of cash donations, corporate sponsorships,
and storage space. Those willing to help can call (805) 541-5070.
Computers 4 Kids is sponsored by TechXpress, SLO County YMCA, New
Image Technologies, Albertson’s, Charter Communications, KKAL
99.7, New Times, San Luis Mini Storage, The Sign Place, ASAP Movers
and Central Coast Printing.
