85 Local Children Receive Computers at Computers 4 Kids Reception

San Luis Obispo, CA – San Luis Obispo-based computer and Internet solutions firm, TechXpress, and the San Luis Obispo County YMCA hosted a Presentation Ceremony for their Computers 4 Kids Program Wednesday night, October 29th. At the ceremony, which took place at Hawthorne Elementary School, organizers presented 85 refurbished computers to elementary and junior high school children from low-income families within the San Luis Coastal Unified School District. Both TechXpress President Bryan Sarlitt, and District Superintendent Dr. Edward Valentine spoke at the ceremony. Then Sarlitt, Valentine, and Principals from the district presented certificates to each child. Following the ceremony, the children and their families were treated to refreshments before taking their computers home.

“It has been so gratifying to see the excitement of these kids as they receive their computers,” said Sarlitt. “Our techs and are sponsors have worked very hard over the past year to make this moment happen. It was all worth it.”

Quote from Ed Valentine:
"During the summer, TechXpress and the SLO County YMCA collected used computer donations at San Luis Obispo Albertson’s locations. From these donations they will likely be able to produce far more than their goal of 100 refurbished computers. Computers in excess of those given to the school district will go to local non-profit organizations that serve children in our area."

Computers 4 Kids recipients from the San Luis Coastal Unified School District were selected by teachers and administrators. The criteria for selection was that the child comes from a low-income home, does not currently have a computer at home, and makes an effort in school.

Computers 4 Kids is sponsored by TechXpress, SLO County YMCA, New Image Technologies, Albertson’s, Charter Communications, KKAL 99.7, New Times, San Luis Mini Storage, The Sign Place, ASAP Movers and Central Coast Printing.
