Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County Awards Contract to TechXpress

San Luis Obispo, CA -- Local information technology services firm, TechXpress, Inc. was recently awarded a contract from Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County. TechXpress is the first tech firm to have a formalized contract with the local non-profit, who previously relied on volunteers to perform computer repairs and service. The contract includes upgrading and maintaining the organization’s computer system and website.

The decision to hire TechXpress came in the midst of a rapid period of growth, according to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Executive Director Kathy Smith. The organization currently serves about 500 people county-wide, which includes 120 child-mentor “matches”. Their goal is to gradually expand to more than 500 matches.

“We are constantly interacting online with other agencies,” said Smith. “To be on the cutting edge of technology is critical at our stage of growth.”

Regarding her decision to contract with TechXpress, Smith said, “We were very aware TechXpress was really interested in community involvement. And we heard very good things regarding their quality of service and speed of response when problems arise.”

The base contract of approximately $2,800 for the first year will include routine network maintenance for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ seven computers located at their offices at 880 Industrial Way in San Luis Obispo. TechXpress will also provide discounted DSL service and web hosting. TechXpress President/CEO Bryan Sarlitt anticipates that there will be additional upgrades and repairs which will be billed at a discounted rate.

In return, TechXpress has donated several computers to replace the group’s outdated systems. They will also perform several services free of charge including setting up a data backup system, installing anti-virus software, upgrading network equipment, and installing battery backups to protect against power disturbances. The TechXpress staff is also designing a new website for Big Brothers Big Sisters, free of charge.

Sarlitt says that TechXpress already works for several non-profit organizations such as CASA, YMCA, Ride-On and UCP. He hopes to increase the number of non-profit organizations that the company serves.

“Good technical support is essential to the efficiency and effectiveness of non-profit organizations. Yet many feel they cannot afford it and therefore aren’t reaching their full potential,” said Sarlitt. “Our goal is to help them bridge that gap with affordable, reliable tech support.”
